A Minor Talent

A Minor Talent

Is it worth having a minor talent
when you want to be famous as hell?
Well, you decide it’s better than nothing,
and you still have your stories to tell,
but you know at the end of your offering,
no one will hand you those roses to smell.

If you want, sit and listen to losers,
who will tell you what they never did,
then walk home alone, soaked in your rain coat,
leave your grey sighs to run down the grid,
drink black coffee and wine far past midnight,
reflect on just why the bright lights were hid.

But you know even a minor talent
has its worth and is seen as a gift,
one that’s not to be sent back or hidden,
to let go on the current to drift,
can take you to the top of the tower,
no need for an elevator or lift.

So it’s worth having a minor talent,
who would want to be famous as hell?
Better create your own kind of heaven
as you fashion more stories to tell.
When you go to the top of the tower,
pull on the rope that will ring your own bell.
